Alex Ovechkin given a real live sheep as 30th birthday gift (Video)
What do you get for the man who has (almost) everything? For Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, you get him some livestock.
Talking to reporters on Friday as Capitals camp opened, Ovechkin was asked what presents he received for his 30th birthday this week. You can watch the video here.
“What did you do for your birthday?”
“In Moscow, in Russia, they give me a ‘ship.’ So it’s at my country house right now. It’s kind of funny.”
“A ship?”
“A ‘ship.’”
“A real ship?”
“Yeah, a real ‘ship.’”
“How big is it?”
“I didn’t see it.”
As you may have heard, Ovechkin definitely said “ship,” but, of course, his accent made it sound that way. He actually meant “sheep,” which is certainly better than that thing from the AS SEEN ON TV kiosk in the mall someone in your family gets you every year.

During an interview on Russian TV, Ovechkin got to see his birthday present, draped in a Russian hockey jersey.
The thing about this ship/sheep mixup is that if Ovechkin really did get an actual ship from someone in Russia, would that even surprise us given his stardom over there?
