Jonathan Taylor enrolls at Southeastern Louisiana
Former Alabama and Georgia defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor has enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana.
According to Al.com, the school confirmed that he has joined the team but he isn’t on the roster for the 2015 season.
“Jonathan Taylor is enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana and is a member of the Southeastern football team, though he will not be eligible to play until the 2016 season, which will be his final year of eligibility,” reads the statement sent to AL.com and other media outlets. “While we are aware of past controversies, Jonathan has not been found guilty for the incidents he was accused of that led to his dismissal from his prior institutions. The Director of Athletics and Head Football Coach have met with Jonathan to outline the expectations of a Southeastern student-athlete. Southeastern Louisiana holds its student-athletes to high standards both on and off the field and we expect Jonathan, as well as all of our student-athletes, to adhere to those standards.”
Taylor enrolled at Alabama after he was dismissed from Georgia following a domestic violence arrest. The charges were still pending against him when he transferred to Alabama.
He never played a down for Alabama, however. He was kicked off the team at Alabama following another domestic violence arrest. He accepted a criminal mischief charge as part of a plea deal.
Alabama coach Nick Saban’s acceptance of Taylor brought widespread scrutiny, especially after Alabama had dismissed him. Saban said Taylor was on a no-tolerance plan and didn’t regret giving him an opportunity. Two months after Taylor was dismissed, the SEC adopted a transfer ban on players who had been dismissed from schools for serious issues.
