Evan Gattis hits one-handed home run after losing grip on bat
On a night when next to nothing went right for the Houston Astros, rock star Evan Gattis managed to squeeze in perhaps the most impressive home run of the entire season in MLB.
In the eighth inning of Houston’s 14-3 loss to the first-place Texas Rangers, Gattis measured up a pitch from reliever Andrew Faulkner perfectly and hit it a long way for his 24th home run of the season.

Without seeing it, you’d probably think ho-hum, it’s only a two-run home run in garbage time to cut the lead to 11. No big deal, right?
Right, you’d probably think that. But if so, you’d be wrong.
As the video tape shows, Gattis, who’s as old school as they come with his no batting gloves approach to hitting, completely lost grip of the bat with his left hand. That means his front arm is completely out of the swing. The power was entirely supplied by his back arm, his right arm, but he still had enough to hit it 355 feet.
That’s an incredible show of power, but that’s nothing new for Gattis. Earlier this season he launched a head-high fastball from Cleveland’s Trevor Bauer for a home run. That one was with two hands. As was his 486-foot shot exactly two years ago in Philadelphia.
Basically, what we’re saying is that Evan Gattis will swing at any pitch, and every swing brings with it the same purpose. He aspires to destroy baseballs, and in the process has provided some truly memorable highlights
We’re moving this right to the top of the list.
