Prisco's Picks for Week 2: Packers will send Seahawks to 0-2, Browns win – CBSSports.com
Week 1 in the NFL is over. We’re on to Week 2, where the Bills, Titans and Rams will look to surprise with 2-0 starts while the Seahawks will look to avoid an 0-2 start on the road facing a Packers team out for revenge.
Here are my picks for Week 2 in the NFL:
Denver (1-0) at Kansas City (1-0), 8:30 p.m. ET (Thursday, CBS/NFL Network): The Broncos beat Baltimore, but didn’t look good doing so, while the Chiefs looked dominating against the Texans. But this is a division game, and the Broncos will get back to letting Peyton Manning throw from the pocket. That’s the wise thing to do. Broncos take it.
The pick: Broncos 20, Chiefs 17
New England (1-0) at Buffalo (1-0), 1 p.m. ET (CBS): This is one of the best games of the week. Rex Ryan vs. Tom Brady is always a treat. Tyrod Taylor did some good things against the Colts, but Bill Belichick will have 10 days to prepare. That matters. The Patriots go to 2-0.
The pick: Patriots 24, Bills 17
Houston (0-1) at Carolina (1-0), 1 p.m. ET (CBS): The Texans need to get back on track, but who will be the quarterback? Bill O’Brien said he would not name a starter until kickoff. Whoever he does pick has to be better than a week ago. Carolina didn’t look great in beating Jacksonville, but they found a way. They will here too as Cam Newton will make enough plays to win it.
The pick: Panthers 27, Texans 20
Arizona (1-0) at Chicago (0-1), 1 p.m. ET (FOX): The Cardinals go on the road for the first time after beating New Orleans at home, while the Bears will be playing at home for the second straight week. The Cardinals will be without running back Andre Ellington, but Chris Johnson and David Johnson will be fine. Look for Carson Palmer to have another big day throwing it as the Cardinals get to 2-0.
The pick: Cardinals 20, Bears 13
San Diego (1-0) at Cincinnati (1-0), 1 p.m. ET (CBS): The Bengals were as impressive as any team in the league last week, while the Chargers impressed coming from way behind to beat the Lions. But this is Cincinnati’s home opener and that defensive front will get all over Philip Rivers. Bengals take it.
The pick: Bengals 28, Chargers 20
Tennessee (1-0) at Cleveland (0-1), 1 p.m. ET (CBS): Marcus Mariota was really good in his first game, throwing four touchdown passes. Now there is tape on him. The Browns will scheme to stop him. That will make it tougher. Johnny Manziel will likely start for the Browns. With a full week to get ready, he will be better. Browns in an upset.
The pick: Browns 21, Titans 17
Detroit (0-1) at Minnesota (0-1), 1 p.m. ET (FOX): The Lions have to be reeling after blowing a big lead at San Diego, but Minnesota has to be one of the biggest disappointments in Week 1, losing to the 49ers. Now they get home with a division game that will test them in a big way. But consecutive road games for the Lions is tough, so Minnesota will bounce back with a better offensive showing.
The pick: Vikings 21, Lions 17
Tampa Bay (0-1) at New Orleans (0-1), 1 p.m. ET (FOX): Jameis Winston had a horrible first start last week, and now must make his first road start in a tough venue. The Saints lost at Arizona, and have a lot of problems on defense. Even so, they will bounce back against a Bucs team that has a long way to go. New Orleans has won five straight against Tampa Bay. Make it six.
The pick: Saints 33, Buccaneers 20
Atlanta (1-0) at New York Giants (0-1), 1 p.m. ET (FOX): The Giants suffered a tough loss Sunday night to Dallas, while the Falcons impressed in beating the Eagles on Monday night. The Atlanta defense showed big flaws in the second half, and that will show up here. The Giants offense gets rolling in their home opener. Work on that clock management, though.
The pick: Giants 30, Falcons 27
San Francisco (1-0) at Pittsburgh (0-1), 1 p.m. ET (FOX): The 49ers impressed in a big way Monday night, beating the Vikings at home. The defense played well, but this is a big step up in terms of an offense. The Steelers were bad on defense against the Patriots, but they will show better here. The short week will hurt the 49ers.
The pick: Steelers 26, 49ers 16
St. Louis (1-0) at Washington (0-1), 1 p.m. ET (FOX): The Rams looked dominant on defense last week against Seattle. That front got all over Russell Wilson, and he’s mobile. This week, they do the same to Kirk Cousins. The Redskins have to hope here that the Rams will have a letdown after putting so much into beating Seattle. It won’t happen.
The pick: Rams 17, Redskins 13
Miami (1-0) at Jacksonville (0-1), 4:05 p.m. ET (CBS): The Dolphins are playing consecutive road games outside the division, but this is a short trip. They didn’t look great in beating Washington last week, but the Jaguars did nothing on offense. That could be big trouble against a Miami front that can get after the quarterback. The Dolphins go to 2-0.
The pick: Dolphins 27, Jaguars 24
Baltimore (0-1) at Oakland (0-1), 4:05 p.m. ET (CBS): The Ravens are playing consecutive road games, which is a challenge, both being a long way from home. But the Raiders were terrible in losing to the Bengals, and should be without Derek Carr. That’s trouble. The Ravens get back on track after losing to the Broncos.
The pick: Ravens 30, Raiders 17
Dallas (1-0) at Philadelphia (0-1), 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX): The Cowboys will not have Dez Bryant, which will show up big time. The Eagles are playing on a short week, but this is their home opener. The Cowboys are a good road team, winning nine of their last 10, but not here. The Eagles will bounce back behind a big offensive showing. The Cowboys won’t keep up.
The pick: Eagles 31, Cowboys 27
Seattle (0-1) at Green Bay (1-0), 8:30 p.m. ET (NBC):This is a rematch of the NFC Championship Game that was a classic. If this one is close to that in terms of excitement, we will all be happy. The Seahawks are playing consecutive road games. That’s tough. It’s even tougher at Lambeau. The Seattle offensive line is bad right now, and that will show up. Aaron Rodgers will beat the Seahawks to drop them to 0-2.
The pick: Packers 21, Seahawks 17
New York Jets (1-0) at Indianapolis (0-1), 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN): This is a tough spot for the Jets. They get a wounded team playing a home opener. The Colts will bounce back after their awful showing at Buffalo. The Jets defense did some good things, but without Antonio Cromartie they will be tested down the field. Andrew Luck bounces back.
The pick: Colts 23, NY Jets 10
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers can’t wait to exact revenge on the Seahawks. (USATSI)
