The Nebraska Cornhuskers claimed their first victory of the 2015 season last week, destroying the South Alabama Jaguars in a 48-9 win. It was just what the team needed following their upset loss to BYU the week previous. Claiming 561 yards during their match against the Jaguars, Nebraska put on a great performance, with number 34 running back, Terrell Newby achieving a career-high of 198 yards and two scores. Quite the achievement considering his previous best was 107 yards. Last season’s encounter against Miami did see the Cornhuskers claim the win, although their defensive line does require some assistance, having to force turnovers just as they did against South Alabama.
Bringing Nebraska to a 1-1 record in the 2015 so far, the team has seen strong play from number four quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr., who has attempted 71 of the 79 passes so far. A total of 45 of these have been completed by Armstrong, with Ryker Fyfe completing another five to bring their total to 50. Receptions have been largely attributed to Brandon Reilly and Jordan Westerkamp, both of whom have been on the receiving end of 10 for 141 and 138 yards respectively.
The Hurricanes have been blazing through their competition so far, acquiring their second win this season against the Florida Atlantic Owls. The game finished in a 44-20 victory for the Miami team, although by half time the score was equalled at 20-20. It would only be in the second half that the team would burst into solid action, with star quarterback, Brad Kaaya proving his abilities with 287 yards in the air as well as a touchdown. Number one running back, Mark Walton was also in fine form, claiming 42 rushing yards and three of the total touchdowns acquired during the game.
Last season’s loss to the Cornhuskers of 41-31 came from an issue with the Hurricanes’ run defence. However, things may be a little different this year, as the Nebraska team no longer contains super running back, Ameer Abdullah. The Hurricanes have only allowed 234 yards per game so far, although 138 of those have been lost against the rush. That being said, 39 of the 65 attempted passes have been completed, while a total of 70 carries have also been recorded for 421 yards for Miami.

The loss to BYU doesn’t look as bad after the Cougars knocked off Boise State last week. However, the defense allowed a ridiculous 511 yards of offense (379 yards passing) to BYU and that is a concern. To make matters worse, they’re really banged up on with three starters questionable and one out from their front seven. Miami is inexperienced at wide receiver but has talent so they may be able to exploit the Cornhuskers secondary if Nebraska brings in help to stop the run game. We loved this game at minus three, but we think there’s still value in laying the hook and backing the underrated home side.
