City star Kompany calms injury concerns
Vincent Kompany has allayed fears he faces an extended spell on the sidelines with the calf injury he sustained in Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus.
Kompany was withdrawn in the second half and pictured with an ice pack on his right leg and will be assessed by the club’s medical staff on Wednesday.
But the centre-back has insisted that his withdrawal was purely precautionary and is not worried that it will be a major problem.
“No, it was a precaution,” said the 29-year-old, who has suffered from a series of injury problems in recent years. “It’s not serious. I know my body.”
We’ll be alright in the Champions League this year, I’m confident. Thanks for your support. Focus on West Ham now. #MCFC

Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala have been ever-presents at the heart of the City defence as they have begun their Premier League campaign with five consecutive clean sheets.
But, while they have struggled to replicate their domestic form in Europe in previous seasons, he is unconcerned that they started their Champions League group with a defeat and insisted that he was buoyed by their performance in the 2-1 setback.
“It was a very different game than in previous campaigns,” he said. “There was actually nothing wrong. In that respect I worry a lot less than in previous campaigns.
“We played against a good team, the finalists last year, and they did very well. I am a little unhappy. But it gives me great confidence for the next game.”
Kompany was involved in what threatened to be City’s winner as he pressured Giorgio Chiellini into an own goal, before Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata scored in the Serie A champions’ fightback.
“It seemed to be the decisive goal,” he said. “There was still nothing to worry about. I understand and accept that people are going to draw conclusions, because it was a defeat. But I feel this campaign is different to the previous one.”
