Fireworks accidentally set off in Cleveland after Alex Rios homers for Royals
Not every great baseball blooper happens on the field. Some don’t even involve the men in uniform.
When Kansas City rightfielder Alex Rios homered to left off Josh Tomlin in the fifth inning on Tuesday night, the fireworks erupted over the stadium in celebration of the blast. But the fans booed.

The problem was the game was being played at Progressive Field in Cleveland where the fireworks are reserved for home runs from the home team. Kansas City won the game 2-0.

It was a tough night for Tomlin, but not because he pitched poorly or because of the mishap with the fireworks. He actually pitched very well, with a complete game in which he gave up just four hits with six strikeouts.

Cleveland managed to get six hits off the four Kansas City pitchers who appeared the game but the Indians couldn’t push any runs across to support Tomlin’s effort.
