The Broncos started out with a modest victory over the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday, claiming a score of 19-13 at home. The era of Gary Kubiak was tipped to send Denver’s rushing game into overdrive, with the head coach being known for his tactics and knowledge in the area. However, such force never really materialised during the game, and the Broncos failed to leave much of an impact. Their rushing game saw them only gain 69 yards on the field, with Ronnie Hillman picking up 41 of these in 12 attempts. Not only that, but Peyton Manning’s passing skills were considerably questionable in the game, completing just 24 of his 40 attempts.
Despite claiming the victory over Baltimore, Denver sit in 23rd position on the leaderboard with their 19 points so far. Official stats for the 2015 season also rank them 31st for the total of 219 yards garnered from the 150 pass yards and 69 rush yards. It could probably be said that the main reason for the Broncos’ victory was down to the team’s defence tactics managing to subdue the Ravens, only allowing them to gain 219 yards. This defensive line will need to be brought into action again once they face the Chiefs.
Speaking of the Chiefs, they came out fighting in their week one season opener against the Houston Texans. Tight end, Travis Kelce was on the receiving end of six passes from Alex Smith, gaining 106 yards as he did so and scoring two touchdowns for Kansas City. Smith had a steady game, successfully passing 22 of his 33 attempts for 243 yards and claiming three touchdowns. The main area of focus for the team now is to ensure that their receiving players start providing receiving touchdowns. Their acquisition of Jeremy Maclin during the offseason was supposed to be the answer to this issue, although he produced altogether meagre results in the team’s opening game.
The Chiefs’ 27 point victory over Houston places them in 11th position on the leaderboard so far, while the 330 yards gained altogether gives them a midway standing of 18th, according to official NFL statistics. A stronger defensive side will improve their rankings overall, as they currently lie in 12th position for allowing the Texans to claim 20 points and 25th position for giving up 396 yards altogether in their previous game.

The Broncos managed just 219 yards and their offense could score only field goals in a 19-13 home victory over the Ravens. They now travel to take on a divisional foe who is full of confidence after an impressive 27-20 road victory over the Texans. They were coasting in this game with a 27-9 halftime lead before allowing 11 garbage points in the last four plus minutes. We believe that the Broncos defense is every bit as good as the Texans and maybe better. Both games fell short of the total last year and that’s where we think it was fall in this match.
