Former Browns CEO Joe Banner in damage control over deleted tweet
Former Cleveland Browns CEO Joe Banner was part of a front office rebuild under then-new team owner Jimmy Haslam back in 2012 that was constructed to bring hope to the downtrodden franchise.
We know how that worked out. He and the team’s GM, Mike Lombardi, were shuttled out of town, and the Browns were forced to implement a new power structure. Once again.

Banner, who has been used in the past year as a consultant to the Atlanta Falcons, has been critical of his former team on Twitter. And when he sent out the following tweet Monday morning, it was assumed that his target was Haslam.
After all, Alec would be Browns team president Alec Scheiner, so it certainly would make sense that there would not be a lot of people above him and below Haslam to which Banner was referring.

Banner has since deleted the tweet, following it up with this damage-control message (which has not been deleted).
Even if it’s not about Haslam — which we don’t buy — it’s clear that Banner was calling someone a “moron” in the Browns organization, one which he says he left in good shape but one that he’s not afraid to throw under the bus when the mood strikes.
If you’re a Browns fan and you’re into the whole gallows-humor thing, or if you just like hilarious Twitter dumpster fires, take a look at some of the responses to the tweet. Or just let a few Cleveland folks who struck out on their own do this Banner situation justice.
Always an adventure there in Cleveland.
