Miami owner: Redskins’ stadium is ‘almost a home game’
After a shaky start and some borderline-unwatchable football, the Miami Dolphins settled down and restored the natural order of things with a 17-10 victory over the Washington Redskins. And to hear Dolphins owner Stephen Ross tell it, the heavy Dolphin presence in the crowd was a major factor.
“It was unbelievable,” Ross said afterward, according to the Washington Post. “Wasn’t it amazing? I mean, you felt it was almost a home game. At least on our side of the ball, it was great seeing all the green there. We’ve got another away game next week. So we’ve got some challenges.”
Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill reveled in the extra crowd love. “You know, I always enjoy playing on the road and when you have the kind of fan base that we did out there today, it makes it even more enjoyable,” he said. “That had to be probably the best road showing that I’ve seen from our fans. They made an impact on the game. They were getting the Dolphins chant going throughout the game and making noise when we were on defense. And when you can do that in an away stadium, it’s huge.”
You expect the Cowboys and Steelers fan bases to travel well, mainly because there are bandwagon fans in every NFL city, but the Dolphins? Surprising, but check out the evidence:
It’s a tremendous shame that the Washington Redskins had all that territory in FedEx Field that they believed was their own, and then someone came in and took it away from them … and dealt out a serious beatdown while doing so. Man, that’s gotta sting.
