Weekend Weather: Weather: Week 1 Forecasts
With the bulk of the Week 1 NFL slate kicking off in less than 24 hours, fantasy owners have dissected their lineups and consulted all the fine fantasy resources that Rotoworld has to offer. Whether it is through Week 1 Rankings, the Week 1 worksheet, or Week 1 matchups, final roster decisions are near completion. One last piece of the weekly lineup puzzle is taking a look at the weather forecasts for NFL cities around the country. Lineup decisions are rarely based solely on Mother Nature, but having an idea of which playing environments may be detrimental to fantasy production can help complete the overall picture needed to make the right calls on Sunday morning.
This week, the majority of the country will see dry weather, with precipitation expected only in the Northeast and Southeast, as you will see below. This weather will impact four of the fifteen remaining NFL games, but the remainder of the Week 1 schedule is clear from any weather interference. Let’s jump right in and check out which weather forecasts are worth watching this weekend.
Wet Weather Watch
Cleveland at NY Jets (1:00 PM ET): A 50% chance of rain is in the forecast for East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday when the Jets host the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium. Temperatures will be in the mid 70’s and winds will be manageable so fantasy options on both teams should still be relied upon as normal.
Indianapolis at Buffalo (1:00 PM ET): Buffalo will see temperatures in the low 60’s on Sunday and a 60% chance of rain is forecasted for this matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Indianapolis Colts. Wind, often a concern in Buffalo, will be reasonable at 12 mph so no major fantasy interference is anticipated.
Carolina at Jacksonville (1:00 PM ET): Rain is expected in Florida this weekend, but Jacksonville looks as if it may escape most of the precipitation on Sunday. Saturday’s forecast at EverBank Field in Jacksonville currently shows a 60% chance of rain, but those chances dip to just 10% on Sunday. Temperatures will be in the low 80’s for this game and wind will be of no concern. All fantasy options in this game should be used as normal, but keep in mind that rain could venture its way into the picture.
Tennessee at Tampa Bay (4:25 PM ET): The gulf side of Florida will see most of the rain on Sunday, as Tampa Bay is forecasted for a 60% chance of rain when the Bucs host the visiting Tennessee Titans. Temperatures will be in the mid 80’s and wind won’t be an issue, so the few relevant fantasy options in this matchup can still safely be used.
Worry-Free Weather
Green Bay at Chicago (1:00 PM ET): Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will be welcomed to Solider Field with sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70’s. No precipitation or wind interference is forecasted for Chicago on Sunday, so all fantasy options can be started in this game as normal.
Miami at Washington (1:00 PM ET): Washington will host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday under partly cloudy skies, with temperatures expected to hover in the low 70’s. Wind will be noteworthy at 12 mph, but shouldn’t heavily impact the passing games or kickers at FedEx Field.
Detroit at San Diego (4:05 PM ET): The best Week 1 weather will be found in San Diego, as sunshine and 80 degree temperatures will welcome the Detroit Lions to Qualcomm Stadium. Winds of 11 mph should be manageable for both sides, so all Chargers and Lions options can be started without worry.
Cincinnati at Oakland (4:25 PM ET): Partly cloudy skies are expected over O.co Coliseum on Sunday, but temperatures will be in the mid 70’s as the Oakland Raiders host the Cincinnati Bengals. Conditions will be adequate for both teams, so all fantasy weapons in this game are good to go.
Baltimore at Denver (4:25 PM ET): Denver will see warm temperatures on Sunday, as the Broncos and visiting Baltimore Ravens will play in 90 degree heat. Aside from the warmth, conditions should be near perfect at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
Minnesota at San Francisco (10:15 PM ET, Mon): Temperatures will dip into the upper 50’s on Monday night by the time kickoff rolls around at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Partly cloudy skies and moderate wind will also be present, but fantasy options on both teams should not be impacted in this game.
