Troy Tulowitzki leaves game after second-inning collision
Toronto shortstop Troy Tulowitzki left the first game of a doubleheader at Yankees Stadium on Saturday when he was injured in what appeared to be a minor collision with center fielder Kevin Pillar.
Tulowitzki backpedaled to make a catch on a pop fly from Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius. He made the catch just as Pillar charged into him from behind in pursuit of the ball. Tulowitzki appeared to take a forearm and Pillar’s head in his back but remained on his feet for a moment before falling backward onto the turf.

Tulowitzki underwent X-rays on his back and ribs and the club reported they came back negative. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI later in the day Saturday and the team expects to know the results Sunday. It’s unclear what his status will be in the coming days, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him miss a few games so the club can make sure he is OK.
Tulowitzki was able to walk off the field on his own, albeit gingerly. Since he was acquired from the Colorado Rockies earlier this season in a trade, Tulowitzki has helped transform an already potent Blue Jays lineup into one of the most feared in baseball.

While his batting average has dipped to .234 since the move to the American League, he has hit five home runs with 17 RBIs in 38 games. He hit .300 with 12 homers and 53 driven in during 87 games with the Rockies.
Tulowitzki has a long history of injury troubles, which were a source of frustration during his time in Colorado.
