Reds become first team to steal four bases in one game against Yadier Molina
It’s hard to steal bases against St Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina who has thrown out nearly half of all those who have attempted to steal against him in his career.
But Cincinnati Reds speedy center fielder Billy Hamilton is a puzzle Molina just hasn’t been able to solve yet and Hamilton was part of an historic day on the base paths Friday against Molina.
Hamilton and Reds first baseman Joey Votto each stole twice against Molina, making it the first time in 12 years in the major leagues that Molina has allowed four successful stolen bases in the same game. He had given up three steals in a game only five times in his career prior to Friday’s game, which was suspended in the eighth inning with the scored tied 2-2.

Hamilton leads all of MLB with 56 stolen bases this season and he is perfect in his career against Molina, going 10-for-10 in stolen base attempts. Molina is the active leader in throwing out base stealers among catchers with at least 200 steal attempts against them, throwing out baserunners 44.52 percent of the time.
But Friday just wasn’t Molina’s day.
Not only did he allow four stolen bases for the first time in a game in his career. He committed two errors in the game, amrking just the third time in his career he has done that.

Despite all that, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see Molina play a part in deciding the game when it resumes Saturday morning at 11:30 CT in Cincinnati. That’s just the kind of guy Molina has proven to be over the years.
