Early Answer: Iverson's Hall call may come in '16
It appears an answer to Allen Iverson‘s Hall of Fame eligibility will come sooner than originally thought.
The retired Philadelphia 76ers great will be eligible for the 2016 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class, according to an NBA.com report from Friday’s ceremony to induct the 2015 Hall of Fame class of 11 members.
The five-year waiting period for the 1996 No. 1 overall pick and 11-time All-Star will now not include a 10-game stint with the Turkish Basketball League’s Beskitas in 2010-11.
Instead, Iverson, who officially retired in 2013, will have his Hall waiting period extend from the last time he played in the NBA — the 2009-10 season.
The diminutive Iverson averaged 26.7 points over his 14-year career, won the 2000-01 MVP award and garnered four scoring titles. He also played for the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies before making a return to the 76ers for the end of his NBA run.
