Oregon State took on the Weber State Wildcats in their season opener and claimed a 7-26 victory, claiming six points in the second quarter, seven in the third and 13 in the fourth and final quarter. In Oregon State’s last match with Michigan, the Wolverines claimed a 31-12 win, although that was way back in 1986. The Beavers will face the same challenge again from Michigan, and despite claiming the victory over Weber State, had many missed opportunities due to penalties and poor execution. The Beavers’ run game during that match was neither here nor there if you exclude freshman quarterback Seth Collins, so this area will need some improvement if they’re to come out on top against the Wolverines.
The Beavers have completed a collective 12 passes of the 22 attempted, with most of these attained by the aforementioned Collins. He also ran for 152 yards with 17 carries and 24 long rushes, giving him an average of 8.9 yards per carry. The team have a total of 56 carries for 281 yards altogether so far this season, while Jordan Villamin has been on the receiving end of four passes, 44 long receptions and a touchdown.
The Michigan Wolverines suffered an opening loss to the Utah Utes last week, going down with a 24-17 point result. Not a great start for the Jim Harbaugh era. While Michigan’s defensive tactics managed to largely contain Utah’s star running back Devontae Booker, the offensive tactics of the Wolverines failed as quarterback, Jake Rudock threw three interceptions and missed out on receiving multiple passes downfield. Michigan do have star players in receivers Amara Darboh and Jake Butt, both of whom have contributed largely to the 27 receptions of the season so far, and they’ll need to continue on the up in order to knock Oregon State off.
The opening game of the season saw the Wolverines complete 27 of 43 attempted passes for a total of 279 yards, a completion percentage of 62.8%. De’Veon Smith carries 17 for 47 yards, averaging 2.8 yards per carry. Overall statistics for the opening game show 29 carries for 76 yards altogether, while the previously mentioned 27 reception gained Michigan 279 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The jury is still out on the Beavers’ defense after playing cream puff Webber in their opener. Last season this unit gave up 32 points a game overall and 34 points a game on the road and return just two starters from that group. It would be a reach to think that this defense is better this early in the season and we’re going to take the stance that it isn’t. Michigan’s offense didn’t look god in their Week 1 game, but are now back home facing a much weaker group than Utah’s. Oregon State does return a slew of starters on offense and we believe they should be able to put up some points against the Wolverines. All signs point to an OVER in this match.
