Oregon at Michigan State picks
Matt Hayes’ pick: The Ducks were 85th in the nation in defense last season, and this unit might even be worse. Oregon QB Vernon Adams will have to be perfect against a strong Michigan State defense, and that’s a lot to ask of a first-year (FBS) starter who hasn’t played in this type of atmosphere. Spartans win 37-24.

LSU at Mississippi State picks
Ken Bradley’s pick: The Bulldogs lost plenty off last year’s team that reached No. 1 by midseason. All-everything QB Dak Prescott is back with top WR De’Runnya Wilson. Are they enough to knock off LSU in Starkville? They’re very, very good, but top to bottom the Tigers will be too strong. LSU 35-31.

Oklahoma at Tennessee picks
Chipper Jones’ pick: Love the re-emergence of Tennessee in the SEC and think they will have a very good year, but not entirely convinced they are quite yet ready to be the real deal. Sooners win it, 27-24.
Is the SEC that good? Worthy of 10 teams in AP Poll?
