The Sooners worked well under new offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley, who boosted the team towards a 41-3 victory over the Akron Zips this past Saturday. A total of 539 yards were claimed in total by Oklahoma, giving them the second best performance in the nation for week one of the 2015 season. Players such as quarterback Baker Mayfield, who threw for 388 yards and secured three touchdowns against the Zips, showed that they were ready and very much able to prove themselves on the field. In addition, running back Joe Mixon, who was excluded from all 2014’s games thanks to a suspension after an off-field incident, inserted himself into the game with ease, catching three for 115 yards, which included a 76-yard touchdown reception.
According to official stats for the 2015 NCAAF season, Oklahoma completed 28 of 42 attempted passes during their opening match. Of the 539 yards claimed, only 100 of these were secured via their running game, with the remainder being grabbed in their passes. Samaje Perine has carried 11 for 33 yards altogether so far, while the 28 total receptions gives the team a current average of 15.7 received yards.
Tennessee also claimed their first win of the 2015 season in week one, beating out the Bowling Green Falcons in a 59-30 victory on Saturday. Six rushing touchdowns were claimed via the sophomore backs, Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara, who finished the game with 123 yards and 144 yards on the ground respectively. Complimenting their gameplay, quarterback Joshua Dobbs showed his sporting spirit, claiming 205 passing yards, as well as 89 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. The Volunteers do need to place more of a focus on their defensive strategy though, following the allowance of 557 yards to the Falcons.
The 2015 season stats show that Tennessee have completed 68.2% of the passes attempted, while a total of 399 rushing yards were gathered in last week’s game. Fifteen receptions were claimed altogether as mentioned, thanks to Dobbs’ passes to key players like Jauan Jennings and Josh Malone. Ethan Wolf went long for a reception of 18 yards and completed two touchdowns, rounding out the Volunteers’ week one and 2015 season statistics so far.

Putting a 41-3 beating on lowly Akron doesn’t impress us much. Tennessee looked good in beating Bowling Green 59-30 in their opener and played very well down the stretch last season. The Vols return most of those starters and are our play in this match.
