Belgium trips Lithuania on tip-in at EuroBasket
BERLIN — Pierre-Antoine Gillet made a buzzer-beating tip-in to give Belgium a 76-74 victory over Lithuania at the European basketball championship on Monday.
Mantas Kalnietis missed a 3-point attempt with four seconds left on the clock, Sam van Rossom grabbed the rebound, ran down the court and attempted a one-arm floater that bounced off the rim. Gillet tipped it in for his only basket of the game.
Lithuania was the silver medalist behind France two years ago and is considered to be a medal contender this time as well.
Belgium qualified for the European championships in 2011 after an absence of 18 years and lost all five of its games. It made the second round two years later.
Matt Lojeski led Belgium with 20 points.
