Great leaping Tulo: Troy Tulowitzki hops over Matt Wieters to avoid tag
Not much went right for the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night during their 10-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
That includes but is not limited to outfielder Ben Revere accidentally boosting a Matt Wieters fly ball over the wall for a home run.

With the Yankees win, Toronto also lost a full game off their lead in the AL East. They’ll start Saturday’s action with a mere half-game lead over New York.
With that in mind, if they were looking for any inspiration, they should focus on this incredible highlight from Troy Tulowitzki.
What you’re witnessing here is one strange sequence with a spectacular finish.
In the sixth inning, Tulowitzki reached base on a throwing error by Baltimore’s Jonathan Schoop. As the baserunner, Tulowitzki watched the ball sail well over the head of first baseman Chris Davis, and then assumed the coast was clear to second base. What he didn’t take into account, however, was the presence of Matt Wieters, who was backing up the play from his catcher’s position.
That set up a rare dramatic tag play at first base. Right at the same time Tulowitzki made the turn toward second, Wieters came up with the deflection and raced toward the bag. Realizing his predicament, Tulowitzki circled back around. He was pretty much dead to rights no matter which direction he went. Unless, of course, he somehow jumped clear over a diving Wieters, which is exactly what he did.
We’ve seen Tulowitzki show off his leaping ability many times before, so we know he’s got hops. However, those are usually connected to a cannon-like throw from deep at shortstop. This was an entirely different situation, but he owned it like the freakishly athletic talent he is.
Credit Wieters as well for his hustle and being in the right position. He just got Tulo’ed on this one. .
All things considered, It was a strange play, but it was really cool to watch. Unless you were watching from Wieters’ angle.
