Bartolo Colon breaks the internet with behind-the-back throw to first base
There’s a reason Bartolo Colon starts have become must-see events and social media happenings on the grandest scale. Every time he’s on the field, there’s a high probability of something strange, extremely unlikely or highly amusing happening, which essentially guarantees the viewing audience will be entertained.
More often than not, Colon’s batting provides the entertainment value. Whether he’s getting a hit or just swinging and missing and losing his helmet, the internet rejoices all the same.

On Saturday, though, Colon changed things up and wowed us with his athleticism on defense. And in the process, he may have broken that same internet.
Big fella not only runs the ball down in fair territory, but goes behind the back to retire Justin Bour.
Are you serious right now?
When trying to put that play in perspective, the only thing we can come up with is Mark Buerhle’s between-the-legs glove toss from foul territory in 2010.
Entirely different plays? Of course. But also entirely different circumstances and athletes. For a 42-year-old pitcher who may not be in ideal shape for his position, that’s as good a play as you’ll see.
As noted, the internet reacted accordingly.
Agreed. He’s a mystery. But he’s a mystery we aim to savor, not solve.
On that note, the Miami Marlins couldn’t solve Colon either on Saturday. Colon ended up tossing the 13th shutout of his stellar career, while extending his scoreless streak to 25 innings, as the Mets cruised to a 7-0 victory.
Oh what a night for Bartolo Colon!
It’s a victory for the Mets, and a victory for baseball fans everywhere.
