College football season finally starts Thursday night with a handful of games to open the FBS slate.
With real games about to start, it’s time to get all of your final predictions down on paper so you can say “I told you so” at year’s end.
Sports Illustrated did just that with its bowl projections released Tuesday, and Baylor fans will be happy with the magazine’s predictions.
SI is projecting Baylor among the four teams to make the College Football Playoff this season, slotting the Bears in the Cotton Bowl for the second straight season. This time, SI thinks they will face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the stadium OSU won the national title a year ago.
In the other semifinal game, SI projects SEC champion Auburn to face Pac-12 champion Oregon in the Orange Bowl.
With Baylor taking the spot in the playoff, CFP hopeful TCU is left behind, but finds its way into a New Year’s Six bowl for the second straight season with a Sugar Bowl matchup against Alabama.
Here’s a look at where SI projects each of our area schools to play this postseson:
Baylor: Cotton Bowl vs. Ohio State (National semifinal)
TCU: Sugar Bowl vs. Alabama
Texas: Russell Athletic Bowl vs. Florida State
Texas A&M: Texas Bowl vs. Oklahoma State
Texas Tech: Heart of Dallas Bowl vs. Western Kentucky
Oklahoma: Alamo Bowl vs. Arizona State
SMU: None
North Texas: None
