Va. Tech wearing helmet stickers against OSU to honor WDBJ victims
Virginia Tech will have stickers on its helmets against Ohio State on September 6 to honor the two Roanoke television station employees killed earlier in the week.
The sticker will feature a “7” for WDBJ 7, the station that Alison Parker and Adam Ward worked at. A teal ribbon will remember Parker while a maroon ribbon will be a symbol for Ward, who was a 2011 graduate of Virginia Tech.

The two employees were doing a live report for a morning show at a local waterpark when they were shot and killed, allegedly by a former co-worker. Vester Flanagan, the suspected shooter, shot himself and later died after police were pursuing him. Flanagan, who went as Bryce Williams on-air, also allegedly posted a video of the attack to Twitter.
“It’s extremely important that the families and loved ones of Allison Parker, Adam Ward, and WDBJ-TV, know that we stand united with them through this painful time,” Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said via WDBJ. “My heart is absolutely broken for the Parker and Ward families and my prayer is that they gain strength and peace through the support and love of this community.”
Vicki Gardner, the woman whom Parker was interviewing in the report, was wounded in the shooting.
The school also said that a moment of silence has been held at volleyball and soccer games while ribbons for both were also distributed.
South Carolina announced earlier Sunday that it would wear a decal all season to honor the nine victims shot at a Charleston church in June.
