John Daly played golf the day after he suffered a collapsed lung
John Daly played golf on Sunday, and that’s remarkable because he spent Saturday night in a Jackson, Miss., area hospital with a collapsed lung.
The two-time major winner collapsed on Saturday at the 18th hole during a local golf tournament at Deerfield Golf Club. Playing in 90-degree heat, Daly had been struggling through the round with the weather and with his breathing. After he passed out, Daly was transported to Baptist Medical Center after the incident.
Daly’s agent, Bud Martin, said the Saturday incident was a result an injury he suffered during the first round of the 2007 Honda Classic, when Daly alleges a female fan jumped out in front of him to snap a picture while on the 12th hole at PGA National. Daly says he suffered the injury while stopping his backswing so as to not hit the fan. Daly has a long-standing suit against the PGA Tour and the tournament, claiming the parties didn’t do enough to protect him from injury.
Daly was treated overnight and released on Sunday. Hours later, Daly was back at Deerfield to play in the final round of the tournament. Before he played, he recalled the incident the day prior.
“I was having a great time and then suddenly – boom – I’m falling down while on the 18th tee and the next thing I know I’m in an ambulance,” Daly said to the Associated Press. “It was scary.”
Daly also tweeted his gratitude for the staff at Baptist Medical and to his fans.
