Pitching
There are three elite pitchers throwing on Sunday; you have Jake Arrieta ($11,300) against the Dodgers, Noah Syndergaard ($10,900) at home against the Red Sox and Stephen Strasburg ($10,100) at home against the Marlins.
Arrieta probably has the highest upside; the Dodgers strike out 21 percent of the time since the break and with Arrietta striking out nearly 10 per nine he looks pretty good to me.
I suppose Strasburg against the Marlins would be decent as their power numbers such as their .113 ISO and wRC+ of 82 since the break suggests they have a tough time scoring runs. Strasburg has been good over his last 4 starts with 32 strikeouts over 26 innings pitched.
Syndergaard is also intriquing as he is 7-1 at Citi Field with a 1.82 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. The Red Sox strike out 19 percent of the time but they do have power (.161 ISO) and wRC+ of 109. Syndergaards 10 k’s per game looks good too.
I think of the three I might be more inclined to choose Strasburg.
Charlie Morton ($6,900) has had his hiccups this season but over the last 5 starts has averaged 12 FanDuel Fantasy points an outing which if he does the same thing Sunday against the Rockies will almost be $500 dollars a point which is pretty darn good value. Morton averages nearly 7 strikeouts per nine facing a Rockies team that strikes out 23 percent of the time at home and Morton has a favorable matchup against Jorge De La Rosa. De La Rosa has been good on the road but the Pirates should give Morton all the runs he needs so Morton seems like a good value play to me.
Offenses to Stack
I would consider most definitely stacking right handed Pirates bats especially Andrew McCutchen ($5,100), Aramis Ramirez ($2,700), Starling Marte ($3,600) and Jung Ho Kang ($3,600) against De La Rosa. Even though Mark Buhrle has been going good this season I would be looking at stacking Detroit Tigers right handed bats like Nick Castellanos ($3,200), Victor Martinez ($2,400) and J. D.Martinez ($3,700).
Value Picks for Sunday Evening.
Johnny Peralta ($2,200) at the bare minimun price is just nuts and his matchup is favorable against the Giants Chris Heston. Peralta is 1-3 lifetime against Heston. Not a big sample size but it shouldn’t be difficult for Peralta to be good value on Sunday. Another Cardinal value play might be Yadier Molina ($2,600). He’s gone yard against Heston and may do so on Sunday.
Domonic Brown ($2,300) has a couple of hits and 2 RBI lifetime against James Shields. Brown is one of those players that doesn’t connect often but when he does he more than exceeds his value and at $2,300 bucks its hard to pass that by especially if you have a pricey pitcher on your hill.
Prince Fielder ($2,900) is another one that is just out of this world. I know he’s been in a bit of a power slump but come on! Fielder doesn’t have a very good history against the Orioles Miguel Gonzalez but a couple of hits will exceed his value.
Todd Frazier ($2,700) is another who has had a tough season and provides great value providing he gets a hit or 2. He has a favorable matchup Sunday against the Brewers Wily Peralta and hopefully he can put up some Todd Frazier like numbers Sunday!
Good luck today Fantasy Baseball owner!!
