The Cardinals suffered their second loss of the preseason this past week, finishing with a score of 19 against the San Diego Chargers’ 22. This came despite having an early lead in the game. Arizona won’t be looking to make the same mistake twice, and quarterback Carson Palmer is probably the team’s star player. During the match against the Chargers, he overthrew a pass to rookie wide receiver JJ. Nelson and also made a super catch for a 57 yard gain. Altogether, he went 3-for-7 for 88 yards and completed a 17 yard touchdown pass to John Brown.
Palmer will need to bring that a-game again in this bout against Oakland, as the Cardinals are currently flailing in defence points, ranking in 28th position according to official NFL preseason stats. They’ve allowed a total of 313 yards on the ground, giving them an 18th position. If Palmer’s offensive streak makes another appearance, the Cardinals could see themselves climbing up the rankings from their current 16th slot.
Oakland’s Raiders suffered their first loss to the Minnesota Vikings last week, with a final score of 20-12. The Vikings raided through Oakland’s defences to take 13 points during the second quarter. The main highlight for Oakland during their match against the Vikings would have to be quarterback, Derek Carr and wide receiver Amari Cooper. Carr managed to deliver a great 40 yard pass to Cooper in the first quarter and if their chemistry continues in this way, Oakland’s passes should stay on the up.
The Oakland offensive so far places them in 16th position for 303 yards claimed, comprising 192 pass yards and 111 rush yards. Defence-wise, the Raiders have only allowed 272.5 yards overall, giving them an overall position of 11th. If they can keep up this sort of defence, whilst improving upon offensive tactics, the Raiders could be claiming their second victory of the preseason this week

Arizona has given up 28 points per game in their two preseason games this season and we expect that will be their main goal to lower that number in Week 3. The Raiders offense is pedestrian managing 30 points in their first two matches and that’s unlikely to change this week. We’ll put our money down on the total in what should be a very low scoring game.
