Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
The Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs are scheduled to play Friday night in NFL Preseason Week 3 action. For Kansas City, they are one of three teams out of the AFC West to win their first two preseason games. The Chiefs come into this game as a 4.5 point favorite over the Tennessee Titans. The two teams are projected to score 43 points in this preseason affair. Here is a look at the both teams in more detail followed up by our Chiefs vs. Titans pick.
Kansas City must improve their passing game in 2015
The Kansas City Chiefs know they must improve on their passing game in 2015 for them to have any chance at a AFC West crown. The Chiefs passed for just 18 touchdowns a season ago, with their top running back and both tight ends accounting for most of them. The wide receiver core for the Kansas City Chiefs did not catch a touchdown all season. The Chiefs have improved that position, and expect big things from Jeremy Maclin. The center of the offense is running back Jamaal Charles. If Charles stays healthy, look for him to compete at the top of the rushing leaders in 2015. Alex Smith is going to take the reigns for another season at quarterback, but Chase Daniel has been impressive during the preseason.
Mariota Madness Spreading through Nashville
Marcus Mariota is already a hit in Nashville. He received a huge ovation as the Titans downed the Rams last Sunday. The most impressive play of that game was the throw that Zach Mettenberger threw for a touchdown late in the game. Mettenberger will be ready, if Mariota is unable to get the job done. The running back situation for Tennessee starts with Bishop Sankey, but a short leash will then turn to David Cobb. The Titans will utilize new wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham early and often in 2015. The Titans start the 2015 season with a winnable game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both teams won just two games a season ago.
Pick: Kansas City Chiefs -4.5
The Kansas City Chiefs, despite winning both games of their preseason slate thus far are just 1-1 against the spread. In Week 1, the Kansas City Chiefs were a pick’em against the Arizona Cardinals. The Chiefs downed Arizona 34-19 in that one. Then, in Week 2, the Chiefs were -3 against the defending NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks. Of course, Kansas City won 14-13, which does not cover the spread. The Chiefs are also 1-1 against the total.
For the Tennessee Titans, they were unable to cover their underdog role in Week 1 of preseason, but as the favorite against the Rams on Sunday, they covered. Tennessee is also 1-1 against the total. Look for Marcus Mariota to backtrack a little bit in this game, as the Kansas City defense makes it difficult for him. We like the Kansas City Chiefs to stay perfect in preseason play. Our Titans vs. Chiefs pick is the Kansas City Chiefs -4.5.
