The Titans’ second overall draft quarterback pick, Marcus Mariota has been granted reams of attention recently, and despite faltering in the team’s début match, he put on a great showing against the St. Louis Rams this past week. Mariota went five of eight for 59 yards before being taken over by Zach Mettenberger. The Titans claimed the victory against the Rams in a stunning 27-14 game, presenting them with their first victory of the preseason. Running back, Bishop Sankey is also proving his worth this season, after having lacklustre performances in 2014.
Tennessee currently rank fifth in terms of their offence, according to official preseason statistics. Having taken 375 yards altogether, this ranks them fourth and the 276.5 of these that are pass yards puts them in second position, only behind the New Orleans Saints. Defence has allowed 363 yards though, giving the Titans an overall rank of 29th on the leaderboard, something they’ll need to improve upon.
Kansas City’s second week outing saw them claim another victory, this time over the Seattle Seahawks. The finish was close, with the final score being 14-13. Backup quarterback Chase Daniel has been outshining starting QB, Alex Smith during this preseason so far, while the team’s first-round pick in this year’s draft Marcus Peters, is likely to see extra pitch time as one of the starting cornerbacks thanks to Sean Smith being suspended for the first three games of the regular season.
The Chiefs’ two victories have seen them claim 24 points offensively, ranking them in seventh position on the leaderboard. Having taken 304 yards, a 14th position is where they currently lay, comprising 183.5 pass yards and 120.5 rush yards. Defensively, 16 points ranks them in 11th position, while the allowance of 267.5 yards altogether places them in ninth.

The Kansas City Chiefs offensive line is a work in progress and Alex Smith hasn’t looked good in preseason completing 17 of 28 pass attempts throwing two interceptions managing just one touchdown pass. The Titans’ rookie QB Marcus Mariota may find the level of competition way tougher facing in what should be very similar to a regular season game. He showed some jitters in his first game, but looked pretty good last week in limited action against the starters going 5 for 8 for 59 yards. Neither coach is overly concerned about winning in the preseason so, while we do think that Andy Reid will want to see some success with his offense, this isn’t the type that normally lights up the board. The Titans will look to see how Mariota does against a good defense, but I doubt he’ll leave his rookie out to dry against the Chiefs’ aggressive pass rush. We expect to see a conservative game plan from Ken Whisenhunt and this game to fall well under the posted total line.
