Son, 23, will wear the No. 7 shirt for Spurs, and moves after a two-year spell at Leverkusen. He has signed a five-year deal at White Hart Lane, but no transfer fee has been disclosed.
Confirmation of his move comes after widespread reports on Thursday said he was set for a medical at Spurs after the clubs agreed a reported €30 million deal.
The Spurs Twitter feed quoted him as saying: “I’m a player who really loves football. I learned the game under my father, who was a football coach in my school.
“I’m looking forward to going there [to Spurs] and performing for the Spurs fans as soon as possible.”
Son missed Leverkusen’s 3-0 Champions League playoff victory over Lazio on Wednesday and the Bundesliga club’s sporting director, Rudi Voller, confirmed to kicker that he had been in London.
Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu told German football magazine kicker that the news of Son’s impending transfer had come as a surprise, with the player having three years left on his contract. He said: “It’s a bit disappointing.”
Hamburg are set to receive 10 percent of the Son transfer fee and €500,000 training compensation, according to local paper Hamburger Morgenpost.
Son, who can play out wide or in a more central role, has played 62 Bundesliga games for Leverkusen and scored 21 goals, adding five goals in 19 Champions League appearances.
He came through the ranks of Hamburg’s youth academy, which he joined as a 16-year-old, and moved to Leverkusen in 2013 for a reported €10m.
