Gus Bradley seeking to make quick improvements in Jacksonville
Gus Bradley knows he has an uphill battle as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. His goal for 2015 is to improve from a season ago. The Jaguars will feature second year quarterback Blake Bortels and a cast of young players on their 2015 roster. The Jaguars running back situation will feature Toby Gerhart, Denard Robinson and rookie T.J. Yeldon. The wide receivers for Jacksonville look to make a huge impact on this team. They include Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, and the tight ends include Julius Thomas, who came over from Denver, along with Mercedes Lewis. Jacksonville starts the 2015 season at home against the Carolina Panthers.
The Lions see the NFC North Opening
With the Green Bay Packers losing their top receiver Jordy Nelson, many feel the NFC North opened up a bit. Whether it’s Detroit, Minnesota or Chicago, the gap has narrowed a bit. Detroit will have to get better production from their quarterback Matthew Stafford this season. Part of Stafford’s struggles from a season ago was the loss of Calvin Johnson. It appears for now, Johnson is healthy and primed for a bounce back season. Stafford threw for over 4,200 yards, but just 22 touchdowns in 2015. Ameer Abdullah comes in as a rookie running back out of Nebraska. Abdullah should get his share of carries, but if Joique Bell is healthy, he will be the main back. A season ago, Bell rushed for 860 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Pick: Detroit Lions +1
The Detroit Lions come into this game as a 1 point underdog. We like the underdog in this game, and are going to bet on the Detroit Lions. The Lions are 1-1 against the spread this season. The Lions offense hasn’t scored much in the first two games, which puts Detroit at 2-0 on the under. The Lions look to mix Matthew Stafford into the mix much more in this game, which should give them an advantage over an inexperienced Jacksonville defense.
For the Jaguars, they are also 1-1 against the spread. The Jaguars are also 1-1 against the total as well. Blake Bortels will have a tough time in this game, as the Detroit defense will make sure they are ready to get after it. Our Lions vs. Jaguars pick for this weekend is Detroit +1.
