Spurs ready new Berahino bid – sources
Tottenham are readying an improved bid for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino, sources have told ESPN FC.
West Brom announced last week that they had rejected an initial bid for Berahino but ESPN FC was told on Monday morning that Spurs were planning to make a new offer within 48 hours.
Tottenham are expected to offer £21 million this week as they hope to convince West Brom to cash in on the 22-year-old, who is eager to resolve his future as soon as possible.
The England under-21 international was left out of the West Brom squad for Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Chelsea, with boss Tony Pulis saying the player was unsettled by all the transfer speculation.
“He is fine, there’s no problems, but it’s the transfer window which causes the problems,” Pulis said after the match.
“He needs to be protected. There’s loads of stuff going on in his mind — not just one club but 15 clubs. No one should have this problem.”
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Leicester that chairman Daniel Levy was “working hard” to bring in a new striker.
Pochettino added: “He is trying to bring in the player that we want and I think that we have confidence in him. I trust him.”
