The Patriots will be looking to gain some ground following their 22-11 loss against the Green Bay Packers last week. One of the star quarterbacks for the New England team, Tom Brady played just two series, a three-and-out and a four-and-out, before allowing backup Jimmy Garoppolo to take over for the rest of the game. He went 20 for 30 for 159 yards, with zero touchdowns and an interception. Unfortunately, he was sacked seven times by the Packers.
Poor offense from the New England Patriots in their preseason opener has placed them in 27th position in the rankings, according to preseason statistics. Their 11 point score against Green Bay puts them in an overall position of 25th. The subsequent defence of the Patriots saw them give 406 yards away, putting them in 29th position.
While also suffering a loss, the New Orleans Saints did so with a bit more fury in their match against the Baltimore Ravens last week, finishing with a 30-27 score. While Drew Brees was held out of the opener, he is expected to make his 2015 preseason début against Green Bay. It’s thought that he’ll amp up game play for the Saints, with some passes to tight ends Benjamin Watson and Josh Hill, both of whom are duking it out in a battle for a starting position.
The Saints may have lost to the Ravens in their preseason opening game, but their strong offense in the match saw them take 266 pass yards and 100 rush yards, a total of 366 and an overall position of 10th in the preseason rankings. Their defense was a little marred within that game, and allowing 360 yards to the Ravens gives them a ranking of 21st.
Bill Belichick does not care whether he wins or loses these matches. He brings a 34-29 record into this game, but he’s been 10-11 in the last four seasons plus last week’s 2015 opener. On the other side Sean Payton was 6-2 in the previous two seasons and after last season’s disaster and the loss in the game last week he may want to get the victory against the Pats this week.

The Patriots are banged up on the offensive line with their starting right guard and center not expected to play. At WR with the starting two wide-outs not playing and total of four of the top five receivers on the depth chart will be sidelined. QB Brady played a lot in the joint practices held between these two teams and is unlikely to see much work behind their battered line. For the Saints Drew Brees will see his first playing time of the preseason, but it’s uncertain how much he will play. This team is set up more as short pass and run offense and we think a vanilla version of that will be on display tonight.
