5-star recruit Markelle Fultz picks Washington over Kentucky, others – SB Nation
The Huskies landed their biggest recruit in years on Friday.
Markelle Fultz is headed to Washington. The five-star guard from Maryland announced his decision at the Under Armour Elite 24 camp on Friday night, picking the Huskies over Kentucky, Arizona, Maryland and Louisville.
The announcement caps a wild ride to stardom for Fultz. Just two years ago, he was a 6-foot guard who couldn’t make the varsity squad at famed DeMatha Catholic as a sophomore. Now he’s a consensus five-star recruit and one of the best in a loaded point guard group within the class of 2016. He gives Lorenzo Romar’s program an immediate impact freshman who can thrive at each end of the floor.
Fultz’s meteoric rise to stardom now has him as the No. 5 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft according to DraftExpress. Fultz’s commitment is a strong follow up to Washington’s impressive eight player 2015 recruiting class, which includes three top 100 prospects, according to ESPN’s rankings.
