Daily Fantasy Soccer: DFS Soccer Week 3

Thursday, August 20, 2015
Welcome to week three of Daily Fantasy Soccer on Rotoworld! We have a fairly regular week this time around with six matches on Saturday that will form the biggest slates on both DraftKings and MondoGoal and I’ll be taking a look at the Vegas odds for those matches momentarily.
First, let’s go over some talking points from this last weekend that might have a fantasy impact in the near future:
- Manchester United keep winning 1-0, but they aren’t impressing everyone. The Red Devils only have three shots on target through their first two matches and that low of a shot count won’t be successful in the Premier League. They get a chance to improve on that this weekend against a mediocre Newcastle side at Old Trafford, but can they finally impress?
- Chelsea are looking extremely poor in the back. They’ve made a new offer on John Stones but if he isn’t there by this weekend, could West Brom have any value against the Blues? It’s very risky, but the reward could be big.
- Leicester’s attack looks like the real deal. They get Spurs at home this week, who looked vulnerable last weekend, and there will likely be value in them. They face Bournemouth and Aston Villa afterwards, and that’s should get fantasy owners excited.
- Bournemouth haven’t scored in the Premier League yet. Backup goalkeeper Darren Randolph gets to face them this weekend.
DraftKings
Two main options stand out here, which are Sergio Romero and Darren Randolph. Romero has kept two clean sheets so far and faces a weak Newcastle team at home. Newcastle only had four TOTAL shots in last week’s match against Swansea, and Romero has the best chance at a win and a clean sheet this weekend. Randolph replaces the suspended Adrian and is solid for the price, although he isn’t anywhere near Adrian’s skill level.
MondoGoal
The goalkeepers we discussed for DraftKings are also in play here, but there are two others that stand out as good values on MondoGoal – John Ruddy and Alex McCarthy. McCarthy gets one of the best matchups at home this week and is priced very well on MondoGoal, making him as good of a value as Romero, if not better. John Ruddy is the second cheapest starting goalkeeper on Saturday and worth a punt play at his price.
Scorers
DraftKings
The sportsbooks once again like Wayne Rooney, but I’m not sure I am in agreement this time around. Check out this stat from Opta:
4 – Wayne Rooney has only four goals, one assist & has attempted just 14 shots on target in 20 Premier League games in 2015 so far. Worry.

If there is a time and matchup for Rooney to break out of his slump, this is it, but I wouldn’t play him in 50/50s due to the risk of him blanking again. GPP play only. Outside of Rooney, Vegas likes Memphis Depay and Bafetimbi Gomis, both of whom I also like.
MondoGoal
Outside of Rooney here, the sportsbooks like Memphis Depay and Harry Kane considering their prices on MondoGoal. I thought Harry Kane played well last match despite being subbed early, and he has another decent matchup against Leicester. I think similarly to Wayne Rooney, Kane is not to be considered in 50/50s but is definitely a solid play in GPPs. His ownership percentage should be lower than last week considering his poor fantasy score.
That’s it for me this week. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below or on Twitter!
