Georgia WR Justin Scott-Wesley injures knee again
Georgia wide receiver Justin Scott-Wesley is no stranger to knee injuries, and the fifth-year senior left practice Monday with what appears to be another right knee injury.
According to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Scott-Wesley “slipped during a route and grabbed his knee while on the ground” during the portion of Monday’s practice which was open to the media. Scott-Wesley “was in pain before standing up to try and walk off the injury.”
The Athens Banner-Herald captured the moments right after Scott-Wesley fell to the turf.
When asked about the injury after practice, Bulldogs offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer deferred comment to Mark Richt, who won’t meet with reporters until Thursday.
For Scott-Wesley, this looks to be the third right knee injury of his career. He tore his ACL in 2013 and saw limited action during the 2014 season and had surgery to repair his meniscus in July.
Before his ACL injury in 2013, Scott-Wesley moved into UGA’s starting lineup and caught 16 passes for 311 yards and two touchdowns in the first five games of the year. He also had six catches for 135 yards and a score in 2012 and three catches for 52 yards and a touchdown last season.
Despite his recent meniscus surgery, the 5-foot-11, 201-pound Scott-Wesley was practicing at full strength throughout preseason camp. With the severity of the injury still unknown, Scott-Wesley is expected to be a veteran presence in a largely young receiver group aside from senior Malcolm Mitchell.
If the injury is serious, the loss of Scott-Wesley could be a big one for the Bulldogs.
