Five things you need to know about the MLB postseason schedule
If you’ve been sweating through the summer heat the past few days, then the notion of looking forward to October might not be a bad thing. So close your eyes, imagine the leaves changing colors, and let’s check out the postseason schedule that Major League Baseball released on Monday.

Sure, there’s a lot to determine between now and the wild-card games — for example, will the Washington Nationals get it together? — but at least we know the dates of the most important games of the baseball season and where you’ll find them on your TV.
First, here are the particulars:
Please remember all that. There will be a test after you read this blog post. Kidding! So here are five key takeaways:
1. We’re most likely playing baseball into November
Unless it’s a four-game sweep in the World Series, baseball will be played in November. That’s a product of the season starting later than usual this year. Nov. 4, the date of a potential World Series Game 7, sure doesn’t seem like baseball season, though, does it?
2. We’re definitely playing baseball on Halloween
Game 4 of the World Series will be Oct. 31, which means we’re cutting trick-or-treating short in this house, kids. That does offer some interesting ideas for Halloween costumes, though, like so:
3. Wild cards, mark ’em down
After last year’s Royals-A’s game, we can all agree that the MLB wild-card games are a lot of fun, right? So mark these years’ down because you don’t want to miss them: Oct. 6 and Oct. 7.

4. Oct. 9: The best baseball days of the year?
We’re guaranteed wall-to-wall playoff baseball on Oct. 9, with all four ALDS/NLDS series going that day. You may just want to take the day off right now.
5. Oct. 26: Your day off
The great thing about October is that there’s potential for high-stakes baseball practically every day. Oct. 26 is the only guaranteed day off from baseball once the postseason starts. Shortened series can change that, of course. But if you’re the type of baseball fan who must watch every postseason game, mark down Oct. 26 as your date night with your significant other.
