QB Adams finally cleared to play at Oregon
Vernon Adams has passed his final exam at Eastern Washington, completing his undergraduate degree and opening the door for his transfer to Oregon in time to play for the Ducks in 2015.
The final math test was scheduled for Thursday afternoon at EWU, and the entire country was waiting to see if the FCS star would join the quarterback competition to take over the Ducks’ potent offense.
As if this kind of public focus on his academics was not enough pressure, there was a #VernonWatch2015 trending topic on Twitter while fans awaited the announcement.
Adams originally intended to be on campus in June, but this last class has kept him from working out — even outside of official team activities — with any of his future teammates. Since he had already announced his intention to leave the program, EWU coach Beau Baldwin made it clear Adams would not be welcomed back to the team if he could not finish his degree in time to join the Ducks.
Meanwhile, redshirt junior Jeff Lockie continues to earn praise from coaches and teammates alike for his work with the team. After backing up Marcus Mariota for the last two seasons, Lockie is hoping for the keys to the high-powered Ducks’ offense.
Passing Thursday’s exam was the first test for Adams. Beating out Lockie could end up being the toughest challenge he’ll face this month.
