The Panthers surprised everyone last year going 7-8-1 and winning their division. Carolina’s offensive line will have to step it up this year in their protection of QB Cam Newton if that want to repeat a shot at the play-offs again this year. This first game against the Bills who have the most unforgiving front 7 in the league will test them to see if they are capable enough to protect their franchised player after allowing 2.6 sacks per game last season.
The Panthers will be looking for some support from their rookies, Shaq Thompson and Devin Fuchness. Thompson is heading into the season with a chip on this shoulder after being pounded by several pundits who say it’s uncertain whether the Washington Huskies hybrid will excel in the Pros. Funchess is also in that same boat in terms of his team role, some analyists say he isn’t fast enough for a receiver and is too small for a tight end.
The Bills have had a ton of publicity on them in the off season as they signed new head coach Rex Ryan and added LeSean McCoy with a successful trade with the Eagles. Ryan has always been a defensive minded coach and with the Bills success finishing fourth in the NFL in defence
is definitely a spectacular match. With all his defensive strategy, expect Ryan to focus more on the Bills offense this year after they finished a dismal 18th in passing yards (225.9) and 25th in rushing yards (92.5).
Expect to see rookie right guard John Miler in the fold this week where he will have the opportunity to strut his stuff. Richie Incognito is also expected to make an appearance to shred some of the rust he has accumulated.

The Bills have decent depth on the offensive line and one of the big preseason battles is at QB. All three aren’t what you would call top flight, but have experience and should pay dividends in the second half against the lower string players. We’ll lay the field goal and back the Bills on the point spread tonight.
