DAN RAUDABAUGH’S journey to becoming the best quarterback in Soul history started in, of all places, a Dallas parking lot.
After finishing his career at Miami of Ohio in 2009 – and after an unsuccessful tryout with the Cincinnati Bengals – Raudabaugh was working for the Daryl Flood moving and storage company in his hometown of Coppell, Texas. His job wasn’t particularly pleasant.
Unloading trucks was the most strenuous duty. Some days the crew would have to handle 2,500-3,000 pieces averaging 25-35 pounds. In the Texas heat where temperatures inside those trailers would easily reach 120 degrees or so, there could be serious injury if bare skin was to touch the sides or roof of those metal freighters.
“It would be kind of like putting your tongue on a frozen pole, but only the opposite,” said Aric Anderson, who was Raudabaugh’s supervisor and a key cog in his path to the Arena Football League.
