Michigan football’s Facebook page was hacked (Photos)
Michigan fans looking for some Wolverines football content on Facebook Wednesday morning got something far, far different.
Starting at around 3:30 a.m. ET, Michigan football’s official Facebook page began sharing links to bizarre and somewhat risqué click bait-y “stories” in an apparent hack.
Here are a few examples:
These were posted intermittently throughout the morning until about 8:30, when Michigan was finally able to temporarily shut the pages down to resolve the issue. Other shared links (there were about 25 in total) were a bit more racy than those shared above, including “Top 10 Situations When Women Want Sex,” “22 Child Stars That Grew Up And Got Super Hot,” “15 Most Controversial Miley’s Pictures!” and “Kim Kardashian Wearing Her Little Sisters’ Bikini.”
Michigan let fans know on Twitter that they were working “diligently” to fix the problem, and just before 10 a.m., the three Facebook pages were back up and running.
UM also offered an apology for the unfortunate situation.
What happened here is basically a social media manager’s worst nightmare and Michigan did a good job to take care of the problem swiftly.
As far as the motive for the hack, I’d bet someone wanted revenge for Michigan banning selfie sticks from Michigan Stadium.
Oh, and for the record, the Dr. Saturday Facebook page has not been hacked and is full of only top-notch content.
