RB Jay Bradford remains out as Texas A&M begins practice
As Texas A&M began preseason practice Monday night, true freshman Jay Bradford was not listed on the team’s 105-man camp roster.
The program released a statement in July saying Bradford “had a medical condition” and reiterated Monday that the running back is still out because of health reasons.
“The health and well-being of Jay is the only thing that matters,” Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin said Monday per the Houston Chronicle. “He is still part of our team but just unable to participate in preseason drills. Jay and his family know that they can depend on us through this process.”
The team has not offered any details of Bradford’s condition, citing privacy laws.
A native of Splendora, Texas, Bradford was a three-star recruit in the Aggies’ 2015 class and was rated as the No. 37 running back in the country and the 61st-best prospect from Texas.

Sumlin said in June that the 5-foot-11, 196-pound Bradford is one of the fastest players on the team.
With Bradford away from the field, the Aggies return senior Tra Carson (581 yards, 5 TDs in 2014) and are expected to receive contributions from sophomore James White (153 yards, 3 TDs in 2014).
Coming off an 8-5 record in 2014, A&M opens its 2015 campaign against Arizona State in Houston on Sept. 5.
