On Sept. 1, 2014, he was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a person between ages 18-20 and possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle. Ray was seen getting into a vehicle with an open container and Bowling Green Police found an unopened can of beer in the backseat and an open bottle of whiskey in the glove compartment. Police also found a glass pipe commonly used for smoking marijuana in the glove compartment, but did not find drugs.
Ray started every game at left guard as a freshman last season and was named a FWAA Freshman All-American. He was also a C-USA Freshman All-American and was graded as the Hilltoppers second-best offensive lineman.
