Hey, San Diego Padres GM A.J. Preller, we’d like to direct your attention to the video above and ask that you strongly consider adding the ballgirl to your roster. Seriously, just look at the catch she made Sunday to haul in a screaming liner off the bat of Matt Kemp.
It’s somewhat of a cliché to say, “sign ’em up” when someone inside a baseball stadium who isn’t a player makes a great catch. But when we’re talking about the Padres – one of the worst defensive teams in baseball by many metrics — this is actually more of constructive feedback than cliché.
Kemp himself is among the worst outfield defenders in baseball this season, as is Wil Myers, whose true disappointment, though, has been his time on the disabled list. See, we’re not just being silly here. The Padres really need some help. (In fairness, Justin Upton is fine).
Bravo, ballgirl, and don’t be surprised if the team asks you for advice in fielding matters.
