Circus tents force postponement of minor league game
Cue the circus music. This story is so ridiculous it’s actually comical.
We’re not joking, either. Cue that circus music, because the Circo Hermanos Vazquez event going on right outside Steinbrenner Field in Tampa actually forced the postponement of Friday’s Florida State League game between the Tampa Yankees and Clearwater Threshers.
The parking lots of Raymond James Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, were used for the circus set up. As you can see in the photo, the large tent causing the issue was set up beyond the outfield wall in right-center field.

According to MiLB.com, it was determined the tent’s bright lights would be in the batter’s line of sight. Any such distraction would obviously create major player safety issues, so the game was postponed until Saturday.
This has to be a first. Regardless, It had better be a last. The circus is fun and all, but it’s not baseball.
In all seriousness — or as serious as we can be here — the parties involved obviously didn’t do a very good job coordinating the events and communicating possible concerns. Giant tent with bright flashing lights beyond the outfield wall probably should have been a red flag for all, but you can’t live unless you learn.
Lesson definitely learned in Tampa.
