Young agrees new United deal – sources
Manchester United winger Ashley Young has agreed a new three-year contract at Old Trafford, sources have told ESPN FC.
Young, whose current deal has entered its final year, had begun preliminary talks over a renewal last season but he said in July that he had yet to agree an extension.
However, he has now accepted the club’s offer and the England international is expected to put pen to paper later this week.
The 30-year-old enjoyed one of his best seasons for the club in 2014-15, establishing himself as a key figure under Louis van Gaal after having been linked with a move away upon the Dutchman’s arrival last summer.
Young showed his versatility when he impressed in an unfamiliar wing-back role when United played in a 3-5-2 formation, and his performances saw him keep record signing Angel Di Maria out of the side on several occasions when United switched to a 4-3-3.
Young, who joined United from Aston Villa in 2011, has always been keen to stay at United despite attracting interest from other clubs.
