Dropping off: Jason Grilli (24th), Yimi Garcia (38th), Steve Delabar (47th), Enrique Burgos (54th), Evan Scribner (55th), Rafael Soriano (57th), Will Smith (61st), Blake Treinen (62nd)
o Barring a waiver deal involving K-Rod, trades would seem to be pretty much finished taking a toll here. That’s why Gregerson and Osuna moved up; they’d no longer seem to have much chance of losing out to a new acquisition. Unfortunately, Storen wasn’t so lucky.
o After trading Jim Johnson to the Dodgers, the Braves appear set to roll the dice with Vizcaino in the closer’s role rather than rely on an older stopgap like Frasor or David Aardsma. He debuts at No. 27.
o Whether it’s fatigue or just a bump in the road, Carson Smith hasn’t looked very good at all lately. Still, it’s hard to see the Mariners wanting to go back to Rodney now and there’s no one else left to make a real run at the job. As a result, Smith’s ranking stays pretty much intact at No. 30.
o With Clippard gone, Mujica is the high Athletic on the list. Still, that doesn’t put him in the top 30. GM Billy Beane won’t hesitate to move him in an August deal if the right offer comes along. Plus, Fernando Rodriguez seems to me to be Oakland’s best right-handed reliever, and Doolittle (shoulder) might be back in a few weeks anyway.
o I’m going with Kahnle as the top Rockies reliever after Axford lost the job last week. He the biggest talent of the group, though he obviously lacks Betancourt’s closing experience. Also worth watching there is Justin Miller.
