Alexander played the titular role in the book “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” After Sunday’s game, San Diego Padres outfielder Justin Upton could have probably taken his place.
Upton had a rough time against the Miami Marlins. He not only struck out in all four of his at-bats, but he did so in an impressive manner.
Though it’s fairly rare for a batter to strike out on the minimum amount of pitches, Upton is not the first player to do so this year.
If you can remember, Athletics infielder Brett Lawrie also fell victim to the same stat line in April.
We don’t want to pick on Upton here. He’s been mostly an above-average offensive player throughout his entire career. While he tends to strike out a fair amount, this is just one of those crazy, rare scenarios that is so awful it’s actually kind of impressive.
They’ll be better days in the future, Justin. For now, we can think of a lot of negative adjectives to describe Sunday.
