– Very few Braves have hit lefties well this year, but Chris Johnson (.313/.349/.440) and Jonny Gomes (.275/.378/.480) have solid career numbers against southpaws. Both could make for cheap plays against Adam Morgan in Philadelphia. Don’t bother with Jace Peterson or Andrelton Simmons, both of whom have OPS’s under .520 vs. LHP this year.
– The Orioles are set to face rookie lefty Daniel Norris at home, which means Adam Jones (.977 OPS vs. LHP this year), Nolan Reimold (.903), Chris Davis (.850) and Manny Machado (.824) could all be heavily owned in DFS contests. As always when the O’s face a southpaw, expect very little from Jimmy Paredes (.632) and Jonathan Schoop (.485).
– Edinson Volquez has been tough against lefties this year (.219/.285/.341), so don’t overpay for Ben Revere (if you were planning to pay for him at all).
– Logan Forsythe (.946 OPS), Evan Longoria (.911), and Steven Souza Jr. (.821) have all hit well against LHP this year, and if you’re really looking for a sleeper against Wade Miley, try Tim Beckham, who has a .283 average and .533 SLG against southpaws this season.
– Charlie Morton has been knocked around by lefties this season (.303/.388/.533), so fire up Joey Votto and Jay Bruce today. It’s worth noting that Bruce is 8-for-27 with six extra-base hits against Morton, and Todd Frazier is 7-for-15 with five XBHs.
– With Robbie Ray on the mound for the Diamondbacks against the Astros, DFS owners should give strong consideration to Carlos Correa (1.017 OPS vs. LHP this year) and Jose Altuve (.926). Also, the recently activated Jed Lowrie was crushing lefties before his injury (1.598), so he’s worth a look, too. Most of the following players are unlikely to be in the lineup: Preston Tucker, Jake Marisnick, Jason Castro, and Luis Valbuena, but they’re all sporting sub-.620 OPS’s vs. LHP this season, so you’ll want to avoid them even if they are starting.
– Like we always say when the Cardinals are facing a lefty — especially one like Yohan Flande — get Randal Grichuk (.868) in your lineups, but steer clear of Kolten Wong (.606).
– Lefties continue to hit well against James Shields (.278/.355/.525), so give Justin Bour, Christian Yelich, and Dee Gordon bumps in value today.
– Lefties also hit well against Julio Teheran (.307/.395/.498). This might be a good day to invest in Ryan Howard and Domonic Brown, and if you really want to get cute, try Cody Asche and Odubel Herrera.
– Collin McHugh has pretty pronounced reverse-platoon splits against righties (.301/.360/.465), so Paul Goldschmidt, A.J. Pollock (knee), and Yasmany Tomas might have more value than originally thought. It doesn’t hurt that McHugh has really struggled in Houston this year, too (5.22 ERA).
– Kyle Lohse has been hit hard by everyone this year, but righties have been especially successful (.311/.349/.521). Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler, and Addison Russell all make for good options. Anthony Rizzo (11-for-24, two doubles, HR) has always enjoyed hitting against Lohse, as well.
– Mike Leake has been pretty devastating against righties this season (.209/.263/.320). Be careful with Adrian Beltre, Elvis Andrus, and Delino DeShields Jr.
– No Rockies stand out as particularly good plays against lefties, with the possible exception of Drew Stubbs (.812 career OPS vs. LHP). However, several stand out as poor plays against Jaime Garcia today, including Ben Paulsen (.646 OPS vs. LHP this year), Nick Hundley (.617), Charlie Blackmon (.613), and Carlos Gonzalez (.444).
– Hunter Pence (.862 OPS vs. LHP this season), Brandon Crawford (.823), and Angel Pagan (.340 average, .370 OBP) lead the way for the Giants against lefty Martin Perez. Teammates Brandon Belt (.585) and Gregor Blanco (.575) have little value in DFS contests today.
– Daniel Murphy is 19-for-56 (.339) with eight XBHs in his career against Jordan Zimmermann. Teammate Lucas Duda is just 7-for-35.
– David Ortiz is just 2-for-16 lifetime against Jake Odorizzi.
– Omar Infante is 17-for-34 with four XBHs lifetime against R.A. Dickey. New teammate Ben Zobrist is just 6-for-37 with nine Ks.
