Chris Archer catches, throws away air kiss from fan in Seattle
What is it exactly that starting pitchers do on their off days?
They stand on the top step of the dugout and bask in the adoration of their fans, that’s what.
Well, maybe that’s not entirely accurate. Especially when they venture out on the road. For example, as we see in this video, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Archer was not exactly basking in the adoration of one fan in Seattle whom he caught blowing him a kiss during Friday’s game.
Archer went with it for a second, but he was only setting the fan up. Just as quickly as he gestured grabbing the kiss, he’d disposed of it the same way he’d dispose a gum wrapper.
Not to suggest he’s a litterbug or would throw garbage on the field. But the point is he had no use for it, so he got rid of it. He gave the fan hope, and then throws it away on the field of broken hearts and broken dreams.

We’re also guessing said fan had already made his presence known earlier, which is why he was able to get Archer’s attention so easily.
Honestly though, it was a pretty funny scene that will now be immortalized in the annuls of Youtube history. But was it as cool as say taunting Andrew McCutchen into giving you his batting gloves or exchanging words and glares with Batman? Not a chance. The good news though is this fan still has time to work on his game and reach that status down the road.
