Cycling-Contador involved in crash at end of Giro stage (Reuters)
Race leader Alberto Contador was involved in a high-speed crash in a bunch sprint at the end of the sixth stage of the Giro d’Italia on Thursday but still crossed the line in the pink jersey. The Spaniard, riding for the Tinkoff Saxo team, still leads by two seconds after the stage won by Germany’s Lotto Soudal rider Andre Greipel. Greipel beat Matteo Pelucchi on the line in Castiglione Della Pescaia but a thrilling finale to the 183km stage was overshadowed by a mass crash which took down a section of the peloton. Italy’s Daniele Colli (Nippo-Vini Fantini) landed heavily and television pictures appeared to show a serious arm injury.
