Saturday Dose: Dose: Reggie Rules
With many teams resting players down the stretch, the fantasy world has been a bit complicated as of late. However, Friday night the stars came out to play. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson shot the lights out for Golden State while John Wall tore it up in double-overtime. There were a few key injuries as well but the biggest performance of the night came from Reggie Jackson.
Jackson hangs a triple-double on the Magic
Reggie Jackson notched his second triple-double of the season on Friday, going for 26 points, 11 boards, and 10 assists. That’s two triple-doubles in the last five games and before that the point guard hung 20 dimes on the Grizzlies. Jackson has been a fantasy and real life revelation in Detroit, averaging 16 points and eight assists per game in Motown.

Warrior Duo lights up the Grizzlies
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson put on a show in Memphis, going for a combined 66 points, including 14 three-pointers. Curry led the pair with 38 points, 10 assists, and three steals while Klay pitched in 28 points. The Warriors are 9.5 games ahead of Memphis in the West so they’ve got the conference pretty much locked up. Unfortunately for fantasy owners this means that both Curry and Thompson will likely miss a few games down the stretch of the season so plan accordingly if you’re in the playoffs.
Lin continues strong run
Jeremy Lin went for 18 points, seven boards, and five assists during Friday’s loss to Toronto. This was Lin’s fourth straight game of 18 points or more and he’s surely benefiting from the Lakers’ “tanking” ways. He was battling a back injury up until recently and looks much more fluid on the court. He’s not a bad player to own this time of year as he’s going to get a ton of minutes and shot opportunities.
Walker might be a sneaky play
Henry Walker started in place of Dwyane Wade on Wednesday and put up a modest 12 points and four boards. It was a fluky line from a bench player but on Friday, Walker drew another start alongside Wade and once again scored 12 points with nine boards, five assists, four steals, and four triples. Yes, Walker played a team-high 39 minutes but as previously stated these are strange times in the fantasy season. In addition, Wade is scheduled to have his right knee drained which puts his status for Sunday’s game up in the air. Going forward, Walker could be a solid role player to stream in daily leagues.
Injury round up
Monta Ellis left Friday’s game with a right leg injury after playing 23 minutes. He finished with 10 points. While Ellis is pretty durable, the Mavericks might be careful with Ellis as the playoffs are looming. Devin Harris and Raymond Felton will see a bump if Ellis misses any games. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist left Friday’s game with a left ankle sprain and did not return. He limped to the locker room and could miss some time pending further evaluation. Gerald Henderson and Marvin Williams will likely see extra run during his absence.

Gooden makes a cameo
John Wall got busy on Friday night to the tune of 32 points, nine boards, and six assists which is a standard great line from the fantasy dynamo. But while Wall was leading the Wizards to a victory, teammate Drew Gooden had his best game of the season. The big man finished with 15 points and 17 rebounds in nearly 40 minutes of action; all season highs. This was a double overtime game but regardless, Gooden’s game couldn’t go unnoticed. If the team is looking to rest big men like Marcin Gortat and Nene Hilario down the stretch, Gooden could be a nice spot start in deeper leagues.
Jefferson and Williams power Hornets
Still in the mix for a playoff spot in the East, the Hornets went full boar on Friday night against the Wizards. Al Jefferson scored 31 points with 10 boards while Mo Williams went for 26 points, 10 assists, and nine boards. For Jefferson, the 31 points is his first 30 point game since early February. Williams’ line was his best of the month and hopefully these two can keep in going over the next few weeks and finish the season strong.
Centers duel in Philly
Nerlens Noel and DeAndre Jordan slugged it out on Friday night but the Clippers easily defeated the Sixers. Noel looked fantastic, going for a career-high 30 points and 14 rebounds. On the other side of the court Jordan pulled down 20 rebounds and scored 17 points. While Jordan is showcasing his talents for a potentially massive free agent deal, Noel is cementing himself as the franchise of his squad. Both players will be hot commodities in fantasy once again next season.
Smith stars in start
With Donatas Montiejunas out for 1-2 weeks, Josh Smith slotted into the starting lineup and went off for 16 points, 11 assists, nine boards, three blocks, and three triples. Wow, that’s a fantastic line and a vintage one from Smith. Now that he’s in the starting lineup, Smith should churn out lines similar to this quite often to finsih the year. Congrats if you own him, he’s going to finish strong.
Hayward returns in style
After missing two games with a sore shoulder, Gordon Hayward returned to the lineup on Friday, scoring 24 points, with seven boards, three assists, one steal, and one block. Hayward looked really solid and should be good to go the rest of the way.
